Follow Fido is an application for IOS and Android completed as a submission to the 2021 Hackabull. The competition challenges participants to create an app within only 24 hours, and I was assigned the designer role. My teammates and I created the concept, and I thought up the name and all branding elements. I compiled these into a branding guide to guide the creation of a cohesive layout for the app. Examples of graphic elements created in Adobe Illustrator include the logo, profile icons, and activity icons.
Create a functioning app within 24 hours to solve a relevant issue.
Follow Fido, an app to track your dog’s schedule. 2020 was a big year for dogs, who were a source of comfort for all during the pandemic. With the influx of new pups joining families, we wanted to create an app to help new and established owners monitor their pets’ activities to form healthy habits and positive owner-pet relationships.
The app communicates with an AWS server as well as google Firebase in order to store events such as vet checkups, training, daily exercise, baths, and more so that taking care of your puppy is a breeze.
We build Follow Fido using a React Native Frontend in order to run the application across iOS and Android and the server-side was written in python in the flask library. We utilized Google Firebase in order to store our information and an AWS EC2 server to do our server-side processing.
The app has a list of implementations we are planning for the future. We want to add features such as an emergency health card with emergency contacts that can be quickly sent with short notice to pet health providers as well as a forum for pet owners to discuss all areas of dog ownership. We also want to create an analytics page to show the frequency of events (such as walking, bathing, etc.) with the option to create goals for each event. Finally, we want to include product suggestions to ease issues pet owners frequently run into, such as dental issue prevention.
