Four Go-To Playlists for Your Upcoming Road Trip

What is a road trip without a set of great bops? I’ll tell you: it’s just a long car ride. Below you’ll find four playlists fit for any road trip accompanied by five of my favorite songs from each.

First off, let’s distinguish a road trip from a car ride.

Road Trip

  • Leads to an exciting destination
  • Requires Dj, also known as that one friend that controls the aux/Bluetooth
  • Singalongs
  • Snacks on board, and blankets/pillows
  • Fun!

Car Ride

  • The only source of noise is the radio
  • Seldom snacks on board 🙁
  • Time goes by excruciatingly slow (likely because of lack of singalongs)

So now that we’ve made that clear, here are 5 Spotify playlists that you need for your upcoming road trip!

Indie Pop by Spotify

This is especially relevant if you’re zipping down the California roads in a worn out Volkswagen Bus. Why? It just fits the aesthetic. This playlist features everyone’s favorites such as Lana Del Ray, Aurora, Coin, Bastille, and many more. These songs will give you a surreal and ethereal feeling and excite you for your destination. The joy is in the journey, and this playlist has all of the light and indie vibes to carry you on your way.

My Top 5 Picks

    • “Doin’ Time” by Lana Del Ray
    • “Another Place” by Bastille
    • “Daydreamer” by Aurora
    • “Girl in the Box” by Danielle Mason
    • “So Pretty” by The Palms

Women of Rock by Spotify

I’m so glad there’s a playlist like this out there because it really showcases how much women ROCK. This playlist will have you tapping your foot to the beat the whole way. These songs show you the flexibility of female voices, from the classic voice of Joan Jett to the range of Elle King. There’a quite the variety here, so buckle up and get ready for a blast to the past and present of women’s rock. In this playlist, the ladies take the wheel (pun intended).

My Top 5 Picks

  • “Raise Hell” by Dorothy
  • “Zombie” by The Cranberries (a true classic)
  • “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine.
  • “Celebrity Skin” by Hole
  • “Lovefool” by The Cardigans

All Out 00s by Spotify

Even the 90’s kids can appreciate the songs from the 2000s. Get ready for the nostalgia and the singalongs that are perfect for recalling your past memories and preparing to make new ones. If you’re the driver, I can assure you that most of these songs are packed with enough energy to inspire you to stay awake and focused. Everyone knows at least one or two of the songs on this empowering playlist, you might even surprise yourself with how many lyrics and titles you can recall. Go ahead, see who can sing along to the most songs.

My Top 5 Picks

  • “Dani California” by The Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • “Uprising” by Muse (pro tip: listen to anything by Muse, their music never disappoints)
  • “Fake It” by Seether
  • “Feel Good” by Gorillaz
  • “Chop Suey” by System Of A Down

Road Trip Sing-Along Songs by Digster Playlists

These are the cliche yet still catchy songs that everyone knows. Sing along with your mom, dad, grandpa, neighbor– everyone knows these tunes. I found myself bewildered by some of the songs I remembered from this playlist, it really sparks that good old nostalgia. But singalongs aren’t just about nostalgia, they’re about bringing people together to have a great time belting out overplayed music. This playlist is a bittersweet mix of old and new, ranging from “Wannabe” by the Spice Girls to the infamous “Bohemian Rhapsody.” There’s something for everyone on this list!

My Top 5 Picks

  • “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey
  • “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani
  • “All Star” by Smash Mouth
  • “On Top Of The World” by Imagine Dragons
  • “Sugar” by Maroon 5

Overall, I had a great time compiling this list of playlists and I hope you enjoy them. What is your go-to song or playlist for road trips? Let me know below!
